Sexing JDs

What am I looking for to differentiate sex? I heard something about marks on the gill plate. can't get my JDs to sit still for a pic so I'm gonna have to figure it out by sight.
 
much MUCH more blue on gills
 
Females have heaps of blue on gills, males have next to none. Males are generally more colourful and have the fin extensions.
 
Females have a beard. Easy once you know what you are looking for.

female have so much more blue on thier gills. and males have more color on thier bodies, and extended anal and dorsal fins. thats what i have noticed someone correct me if i am wrong. my avatar is my male jd. i am yet to get a pic of my female
