Hello everyone, I was woundering if I could get some help with the sexing of my Jack Dempsey. From what I've read the most assured method is by there coloration, is this true? If so I am fortunate enough to be color blind which makes this much harder for me. :irked:
I keep looking into breeding them more and more and I feel I have an exquisite candidate. I've had him for a couple years since he was a baby, currently in a 55 long by himself, and its over-filtered.
He is extremely healthy and prefers to decorate his tank him/her self as you can somewhat see in the picture he has dug out alot of the gravel to the tank bottom. Perhaps a sign of readiness to breed?

If this picture does not suffice I will obtain better ones later today.
Thanks for any help!

You can tell by the gill plates. Females have like a beard on their gills plates that is blue, while males do not.

WOW! thanks for the quick and definitive answers, without looking at him I'd say hes between 6"-7"
I will get more pics later. I've been wondering this a long time so

:grinno:THANKS AGAIN!:grinno:
