I bet if you changed the substrate and put up a blue backround his colors would pop alot more. White gravel with grey backround will wash out his colors because they like to match their surroundings.
Yeah he's a nice looking fish, breed away. He does need to be fattened up.

Putting a female in the tank will change his colors as well. The stripes darkened and the red tips of his fins were far more noticable. Good luck! I've got a tank full of babies now since my JD's spawned and it's pretty cool to watch them herd the group around.
