Sexing of a Jack Dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah its not really by color as much as it is by design so it doesnt matter if your color blind just look where he has the spotting, he has lots of spotting on his body and none on the lower half of his gill plate, a female will have smudging and spotting on the lower half of her gill plate and less body spangles

Im not trying in anyway to burst your bubble here. I LOVE Jacks, But I would consider finding a different male with more desirable traits. Might need a better picture to say for sure, but by the looks of him, he is lacking alot of spangles on the sides. Deformed hump nose. Strange elongated tail. Lack of red trim on fins. And bland fin pattern.
So get some more pics up.
It all depends on what you want to use the fry for. If you going to use the fry as feeders or something, have at it. If your considering selling or giving these away I would find a higher quality Jack.

That's why I was asking for more pics. I didn't want to say it wasn't a good looking Jack to breed without seeing more pictures.

Let's get some pics up!! :)

Thank you, those are some good traits to breed, eh?
yes, definately. i love seeing such a clean looking jd, even colors and lovely individual spangles

Yeah he's a nice looking fish, breed away. He does need to be fattened up.
Didnt mean to offend mate, but that first picture makes him look terrible, Definatly doesnt do him justice.
I bet if you changed the substrate and put up a blue backround his colors would pop alot more. White gravel with grey backround will wash out his colors because they like to match their surroundings.
