Stand up for the people who deserve it and show that this board won't stand for bashing.

This board doesn't stand for bashing, flaming, or petty arguing. If you see this taking place, use the "report post" function and it will be resolved.

I'll jump in here and admit I'm guilty of the "misunderstanding, prickish, demeaning" sort of tone at times, and there really is not an excuse. Dumb question/post or otherwise, new member or not. "Dumb" is subjective/relative in and of itself. (it's a matter of opinion just like "normal").
I tend to get the "attitude" when I see lots of good advice being given, and the original poster seems to "ignore" or otherwise "blow off" this advice. Post count be damned.
I'm no "expert" in anything related to fishkeeping, and don't pretend to be, here, or anywhere else.
I make statements/give advice if I think I have something to offer (well mostly anyway).
Sometimes I misunderstand the original meaning and get S.W.A.T.T.E.D, but I'm not perfect, and will freely admit to that as well.
What gets to me most times is the blatent disreguard of the opinions/advice given.
Why post the question in the first place? newbie or not.
Sometimes it seems to me that there are trolls just trying to cause an issue, and not really caring about the OP, because they already know better. i.e just trying to instigate.
I've been swatted, I've been wrong, I've learned from others, and disagreed with them at the same time. That's the purpose of the forum I think.
My fishkeeping skills and knowledge have increased due to this site, no doubt.

well I'm sure there are a few on here that feel I've "bashed" them, for that I am sorry. I know that I'm argumentative and I will speak my peace, I tire of the repeat questions, the extreme laziness, lack of comprehension and the lack of gratitude many newbs are guilty of. I enjoy posting here, but unfortunately I'm not gonna change. If any feel they are being bashed, report the post, if a mod agrees then I'll suffer the consequences like a big boy.

thank you to everyone who has posted so far. this has given me a renewed affection for this site to know there are people on here with the same feelings toward this issue as i.
i agree full heartedly that many people are lazy and post rather than research for themselves. this site is a great researching tool and the fact that anyone can sign up and start posting and is welcomed is great. i'd just love to see it stay that way

when i started frequenting this site my enthusiasm for the hobby was greatly bolstered by everyones willingness to help me and hear me out, understanding i was less than a genious on the subject.
but now more and more i'm reading threads where the more experienced people are less than willing to give the time of day to people with more basic questions. or heaven forbid someone makes a mistake and has a 9 page thread tearing them to pieces.
if we ever wish this hobby to grow at all we are going to have to have more compassion for the beginner. i mean we wonder why more people don't see what we do in fish but as soon as someone starts to we beat it right out of them.
shame on us.

i may be the only one thinking this but hopefully not. input please.

I think I know what you mean, and I agree.

A lot of people who are fortunate enough to have huge aquariums and fish are snobs about it, and act like jerks to people who have smaller tanks.

I agree with some of whats be said but not with it all, no question is "dumb" for starters, if they don't know the best thing they can do is ask, if you don't ask you don't learn.
The repeat questions can be a pain but a noob using the search will get lost in the number of posts brought up(I have any way) here or on goggle
example: 55 gallon stock: here 534 posts, goggle 47,000 pages and most having nothing to do with stocking a 55 gallon they just have gallon or stock somewhere on the post
Extreme laziness is not always what it is I have asked for opinions as to stocking and min tank size because I wanted others opinions as they may make me think of something I never would have or may be keeping fish I like but never have keep my self and gotten flamed and bashed and asked if I was a noob 20 times, that alone is enough to turn some people off not only the site but the whole Hobie. I ask here even if I found a page on goggle because I trust the experience of the members more then I ever will a web page made by someone with facts they found who knows where.
It seems to be the same people who do it time and time again when all they have to do is not bother posting on the topic to keep the peace, but instead are the first to jump on the bash waggon, thankfully they are few and far between and most here are a great help.

sometimes i really wish i could help, and i do have some experience to share with, but speaking something very complex in english seems a headache.:(
