Shamu - still kickin'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know you were excited about getting him but he's been trouble from the start. Eating, not eating ect. if you like Carpintis let him go you'll be happier in the long run IMO. Yes, ~3" growth in 7 months is lpretty lame.

that is amazing !! what kind of camera do you have and is that a red devil ?

It's a midas. F1 Amphilophus citrinellus. Camera is a Nikon D60, lens is a manual focus Kiron 105mm macro lens from the 80's. Heh.

Personally I can't stand a finicky picky fish. I'd rather keep a hearty eater that doesn't keep me worrying all the time. This is a hobby and I have enough other worries in my life.

That's what I'm thinking. I'd hate to remove the carpintis and have the midas quit eating AGAIN. It's no fun when you have one fish in a tank and it hides all day. I keep expecting him to show the classic midas personality but it's slow in appearing.

This is what he does about half the time. :screwy:

You stomped my post with a picture of of a decoration and a fish head!

Hmm, to be honest he does look stunted. He looked much worse when you got him at 4", so kudos to you for helping him plump up some! What was his history like before you got him? He's probably older than he looks and he just isn't going to reach full potential. I hate to say that because he does look like he has some promise (nice nuchal hump and fins)... but the rest of his body looks kind of wimpy.

Modest_Man, I'm not trying to insult your fishkeeping at all, so please don't take it that way. It just seems like that little squirt has been trouble from the start. I feel like he has to have some sort of health issue going on. Having said that, I currently have a convict with a ruptured gas bladder, and a shy Midas, and I love them both and will never get rid of them, haha!

I would personally would swap him out for another midas. Nothing beats a midas with a good attitude.

I have a midas I have had since it was small for 14 months...barley the size yours is and acts the same often...I debate what to do daily but cannot just get rid of it. It really sucks

His history is I bought him directly from Jeff Rapps in Feb.

Dang! Well that proves me wrong...

Did he ever have a good appetite when you first got him?

Why not throw the guy into a community and see what happens?

Do you have a community to donate? Because I don't, living in a 3rd story apartment right now. This is my only tank.
