How do people get those weeksii with the bright green heads?

Nice to see the Weeksii thread. My big boy is turning 14 years old. Size wise you can see him touching both front and back on a 24” wide tank. This is his last week in the cramped 180. 255 next week

He lived all 14 years in the 180? I feared my polys would get stunted long term in my 225. That relieves me lol

actually he has lived half his life so far in a 150 g. (58”X26“WX 24”). I have grown out several 20”+ bichirs in this set up. Never missing a weekly 80+% W/C

There was someone who grew out a 28"-30" congi inside of a 180g (6x2x2) in 8 years. Tank size isn't usually why bichirs get stunted though.

I don't know how they do it honestly. My wc laps went from 10" to 12" in three years while eating quite well and the tank being on a drip. I can say right now that they are never going to reach 24 inches lol

I think it has to do with genetics as well. Definitely multiple factors when it comes to growing out bichirs to big size. Generally what I’ve seen is most lower jaw bichirs grown out in captivity get “stuck” at 16”-18” or so.
