well arent you one to judge...

ive never even had Shark Fin soup.

and btw. im an Avid land based shark fisherman... i think i care about the health of the populations. we catch Blues, leopards, threshers, Soupfin, Great white, smoothounds, angel sharks, and even a hammer and Mako...

but you guys sure do like to attack other cultures.
Now I see where you are comming from, you claim to care about the health of the populations but how many of these sharks die from your activities as an avid sharkfisherman. You defend the practice because what you do is just as bad,who catch and releases a GreatWhite. No one mentioned or attacked any cultures if the subject is too touchy then dont indulge in it.(Who said the rest of the shark was put to waste?) If animals are being hunted to extinction then the whole body is put to waste.Ctoychik, you said it best with the photo you provided us with,Nuff said.

I don't think anyone here is for the practice of removing shark fins and discarding the body of the shark. In fact, I bet we are all concerned about unethical practices.
But to condemn shark fin soup for the food that it is, is pretty ridiculous. It is what it is. Hopefully in the near future, the shark fin soup industry will regulate what species and their practices to a more eco-friendly manner.
Remember, we as a society and culture create the norms and standards. All we can do is help educate others to prevent "unethical" practices.

I don't follow your logic. You say no one condones "finning", and then say we shouldn't condemn shark fin soup.

You're right about saying hopefully in the future the shark fishing industry will regulate the species caught, the quantity, and ban finning outright. But until that happens how can you prove that the soup you're eating hasn't come from finned sharks then IMO you should be condemning it.

Who said that the rest of the shark was put to waste? Do you know for a fact that the shark, whos fins were used in the soup, went to waste?

You people think so one dimensionally.

Are you telling me you'll eat shark fin soup on the off chance they got the fins from a reputable source that does not practice shark finning and uses the entire animal???? :screwy::screwy:

Shark finning happens BECAUSE of Shark Fin soup. If there was no shark fin soup, Shark finning would be cut in half...more like almost cease to happen at all since the price paid for shark fin soup is so high.
If you people did any research at all, you would understand why eating shark fin soup is the main contributing factor in shark finning.

Supply and Demand people. :nilly: If people eat it and pay $$$$ for it, then they will continue to fin sharks and throw the carcasses back to sea. There is no profit for them in saving the bodies since the price of shark fins for soup overcompensates for any money from the meat.

The majority, and by majority i mean almost ALL shark fin soup is the result of shark finning. Not responsible fishing.

Go online and educate yourselves on finning and shark fin soup. I'm so done talking to such thick headed individuals.

\And what does 'condoning shark fin soup' and 'belonging to this site' have to do with each other.

I believe you do not know how to quote. I SAID. If you condone shark FINNING, you dont belong on this site.

In which case, if you were a true monster fish keeper, and cared about all fish which includes sharks, you would not condone shark finning.
Hence, if you condone shark finning, you are not a monster fish keeper, you are a monster fish killer.

get it?
