Hey Guys,

Well my question is has anyone here ever went shark fishing, by this I mean actually targeted sharks not accidental catches. I would like to know because I'm heading to Florida this summer, and I usually always go fishing and I'm hoping to catch a big fish. We personally like fishing from the shores at Jones Beach. I seen people catch large fish like snooks and sharks being hurled in from the ocean lol. I've always been wanting to surf fish can the pro's like you tell me the things I need for such a skill? Also what kinds of fish been caught by surf fishing?

Please provide me a list of items if you can also lots of advice is needed!!!!!!Thanks...i do good with list is which is why I ask....lol pics are great too!

Anyone, heading to florida soon. I usually fish at Jones Beach.....Please Help! Anything on catching big fish from the shore?

lol thanks for the advice guys, I'm guessing I must be at my pole at all times....don't want it to be taken lol

get the biggest shimano bait runner you can get ( the Fin Nor 9500 is also a nice reel), and a decent surf pole. Rig it with some powerpro, and top it off with some wire/cable. Use mackerel, ladyfish, or bonita for bait. Head out to the beach at night cast it far and just wait. Incoming tide is the best. Having a bait runner makes it a lot easier. There's a lot of different rigs you can use, and you can even find demos on how to make them on youtube. Everyone has there own opinion on what works ...

I target sharks here in So Cal but they are mostly leopard sharks which come all the way into knee deep water so I don't have to cast so far on the east coast though you can catch lemon, hammerhead and bull sharks from shore with the right gear. Bigger sharks don't go into the surf zone too much so you want to get your bait outside of the breakers. You want to have at least 300 yards of line 60# braid or stronger with a wire leader. Use Macks cut in half or other greasy fish with lots of oils in them to attract sharks. You can use a 3 way swivel with a 2 oz. or bigger pyramid sinkers depending on the current with a 10 foot or bigger surf fishing pole. Wing it as far as you can and if you can't get outside of the breakers you can always put the rod into a sand spike put it in free spool and swim it out there. Drop it swim back and wait. I always use circle hooks since you hook them mostly in the lips which makes for easy removel once you land your shark. Also it's always good to have a fishing partner since it's really hard to tail a shark with your rod still in hand.
