Shark that's look real??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
now let's see you afford the filter, live rock, sand, and salt for it. lol[/QUOTE]

I don't really see whats so funny about that. Filtration for large shark pools isn't like what you would use for a reef tank. The live rock is not that important and you can get away with using large sand or bead filters with pool pumps. Its not that bad. And as far a salt goes some LFS will give you quite a break on price if you buy enough salt. :D

or you make your own salt water mix for 6 dollars per 100 gallons. :D

Yeah - making your own salt water mix is definitely cheaper than buying enough from your LFS - especially if your doing a large shark lagoon/tank(more than 10,000 gallons.

Here's a few figures to consider using a 10,000 salt water pond

For enough store saltwater mix - to fill a 10,000 saltwater pond - would roughly cost between $1,300 - $2,200. Or basically between 13-22 cents per gallon.

For enough homemade saltwater mix - to fill the same 10,000 saltwater pond would be roughly between $600 - $800. Or basically about 6-8 cents per gallon.

Once you start doing the number on something that big though, you have to include opportunity cost - how much time is it taking to mix your own 10,000 gallons of salt. For me, it's proved much more cost effective to work out a deal with Instant Ocean directly.

The seattle aquarium sells purified salt water for some ridiculously cheap price, like 15 cents per gallon or something. It taken from the ocean and run through a carpload of various filters.
