That time of year is here again. Seems it's usually a love/hate kinda thing with actual shark keepers. This is the thread to discuss anything related to Shark Week on Discovery Channel this year.

Have at it........

I hate how the discovery channel seems to be all about Shark and ocean conservation, yet they show mostly shows on shark attacks that perpetuate the fear of sharks. I do like, however, the few shows that show how much progress is being made on the research of Great whites after being so mysterious for so long.

I enjoy shark week, although I find it funny how they have the commercials that air during it about sharks and shark week, kind of like a mini scaled down version of superbowl commercials

I see this thread is about as interesting as SW this year. LOL

i have been disappointed in the shows they've shown so far during this year's Shark Week. are we only going to focus on attacks? very few of the attacks that actually have footage or photos are new to me, let alone someone like you with all of your experience

That hits it on the head for me.
Between that and all the re-runs... seriously, can they not find new things to film about sharks?

I'm also sick of the dramatizations of the attacks. In particular, I was watching one last night that talked about a shark not letting go, and four or five kids were shown lifting a 9' plus great white look a like out of the water... then when the actual photographs were shown from the day, it was a 3' shark that bit the kid.

I always loved shark week when I was little, I still like it, but its gotten boring because most of the shows are re-runs and their all about the same aspect of sharks: How dangerous they are. I wanna see more conservational stuff, but I guess thats just because those are the shows I like to watch the most when it comes to fish in general.

I agree with most of you guys that shark week is too much about the sharks eating people. I personally would like to see somne stuff about captive sharks and transporting them, migrations, or even trying to find some sharks that aren't too well known like the spear tooth. Actually a show on the smooth hammerhead would be real cool. Heck I would watch a show on cat sharks before I would watch another white jump out of the water with a robot seal in its mouth.

or even trying to find some sharks that aren't too well known like the spear tooth.

That would be a sick show, or like a couple on finding some like goblins (which I think they've actually already done) or like frilled sharks or something (but thats probably extremely difficult :irked:).
