Sharks that should be banned from public sale

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Whites aren't to be looked at like any other normal captive shark. Everything we have set in our minds about how to keep sharks needs to be thrown out the window with this species.

While, I may not usually agree with - Zoodiver. I will agree whole heartedly that the best place to observe Great Whites is in their natural habitat - The Ocean. Anyone who's seen the "Air Jaws" documentary - will agree that to be able to witness this in person would be truely breath-taking experience(something I would personal love to see personally - from the safety of a large boat - naturally).

Unfortunately the only way - most of the general public will ever be able to see this wonderful shark in person, is when one is kept on displace at a large public aquarium, like the MBA. And sad truth is that the MBA or another large Public Aquarium will continue to attempt to try to house this incredible species. While this does have the added benefit of educating the public about this beautiful apex predator. It still puts another shark in potential danger.

By the way - for those who may not be update on the MBA - they're at it again. For the second time in 2 years - they are attempting to keep a great white in captivity. This time is a juvenile male 5'8" in length and weighing at 104lbs.

Have you NOT been reading what I post? this isn't just the second time. This is the second time they've told the public.

And the boats Chris used to film the "Air Jaws" shows are shorter than the sharks.

Sorry rayman - Your not even close - on both tank size & shape - you can't even keep a pup in any rectangular aquarium - even a 360 gallon.

A minimum size tank would be 750 gallons for one of these sharks and the tank would have to be round.

Well - Justin - that's closer. And would work for a bonnethead pup - between 14-24" in length - after that you better have a much larger pool.

An adult Bonnethead is about 4' in length - and can reach up to 4.9' in length. They are as a very active species - therefore that require a pool or tank that is at least 15 (18-24' is better) in diameter(or at least 4,000 gallons)

And bonnetheads require a pool/tank that is either round or oval shaped. This species does very poorly with sharp corners.

Hey guys, I am back. Noticed some of you were keepin up with us, so I figured i would confirm it - yes there is another white here. Wasn't supposed to be on display until mid-later sep., which is why I couldn't say anything before, however the exhibit date was upped, and he is on display now. He seems to be doing fine, still trailing the side pannels, and has bumped them a few times, but he has also made some deep dives, and large circles (which are good), so we can't say for sure just yet how everything will pan out. As far as tankmates - - all are alive (and whole) so far, but he was getting pissy with the hammers, and knocking the rays around quite a bit, so we are in the process of removing some of them (maybe all for now), and as time goes by, plan to re-introduce them slowly to see if the agression subsides. He hasn't eaten yet - played with the food - but not actually eating (and thats ok for now). But REMEMBER THIS - - he looks awsome right now, so though we don't know how things will pan out, even with the minor exhibit changes made, he came to us absolutly healthy, and if anything bad happens this time - remember that and use your brain when digesting media releases ok!! Of course I am excited, and of course hope for the best, buuuutt the track record is flawed, so I am on my toes for now. I can keep you all updated if you would like, and we also offer daily updates on our website with basic info on how he's doing. Also if any of you are interested, we have our outerbay live stream cam set up, and you can watch him if you want.
