Heh, I get your point but it's kind of funny since Denmark is quite small so it's not THAT bad driving to other countries or cross-country from there I assume. It would take me about 8 hours of driving to reach the nearest country (Canada), and that's fairly close in America. Heck, the state I live in is almost 6 times as large as your whole country.

As i said, point well taken but it made me chuckle, at least we can send them through the mail at all!
Hehe yes very true, but as you said, the point still stands :)

Not to mention the scores of incredible fish in the US that are offered in the MFK classifieds on a weekly basis.

Shipping is no joke, but sometimes getting what you want comes with a cost. I just had to pay $15 the other day to overnight a document home. Think about it, $15 for one piece of paper....

To the OP: Dan Ye Jennings is in Colorado. Americancichlids.net. Her name is quickly being passed along in the hobby as reputable and good quality. Like Jeff, a phone call to her will ensure you get exactly what you are looking for. Since she is in Colorado, you could probably reduce the shipping cost if in fact she has what you are looking for.

I've picked up fish at their house and had to pay no shipping costs.:headbang2

Shipping costs for all of us vendors plain ol' suck. Not much more to say.We do not own Fed Ex,UPS or USPS.that's the only 3 to choose from and that would basically be called a monopoly. They give whatever prices they want and can care less if it kills deals or not because they're already rich.If I had to put a cap on shipping fish,in my opinion,$25-$35 is a fair price for everyone from east, south, north, or west.If you are in the USA that's a good price for shipping, but that's just not the case.
Bigger retailers and Florida vendors get great rates. Why?because they ship more and it's pretty standard down there with 100's of fish farms and importers etc. Also wholesale fish dealers get good rates because they ship 100's of boxes a week.Volume is key.
So when the fish being shipped is $13 and I was to tell someone it's $45 to ship the $13 fish...I already know the answer is no.It's not like vendors dont want to sell their fish so the shipping kills us even worse.( probably 85% of my "potential" sales are killed with a shipping quote and that is FACT!) Don't forget us vendors have to pay to have fish collected, imported, exported, trans shipped, shipped (whatever the case may be) to bring the fish to us , before we can even offer it for sale.So we already got raped with shipping costs and fees ourselves. It sucks for both the buyer and the seller-period.
The best way to buy fish if you are across country from the original seller is through a group buy.I even do "group buys" with a few other guys who are either vendors, breeders, hobbyists or pet shop owners etc to split shipping on imports and large volume orders.just makes more sense that way.Or...you look for a vendor in your area.Maybe we should all attend ACA this year wearing t-shirts that say,"shipping costs suck!" and hope the news catches it for UPS ,Fed Ex and USPS to see. Then again, wouldn't matter anyway we're just them "weird fish people" :screwy:

I regularly import fish from overseas and many times the shipping cost are more than the fish, that's just the way it is. Pay $1500 for the fish and $2500 for shipping!

exactly

Good posts ... I think a lot of us forget that the fish have to get shipped to you guys first, at much longer distances than state to state.

If 85% of your sales are lost because of shipping cost, Im guessing that 85% of your potential customers are people that still live with their moms & dads, dont have jobs, have never ordered anything online, dont pay taxes and dont understand the cost of running a business, especially one that so heavily relies on the use of fuel.

Shipping is what it is. A service. I really dont understand who doesnt get it...

When I first started ordering fish online, I was expecting to pay way more for the fish offered than they cost.

Its incredible that you can get a wild caught fish from halfway around the world for $20+.
