Shipping Disaster

Because afaik, USPS scanning is not the same as UPS/FedEx scanning. It doesn't seem as sophisticated or precise, at least from my own experience tracking USPS. It used to be that they would only scan an item when you dropped it off and when it arrived at your local post office, and any time between that just said "In transit." Even though they've improved their tracking system, there will still be long periods (durin train or truck transit, for instance) where the tracking updates go black for a couple days.

You have to remember that USPS processes more mail in a week than UPS handles in a year. Pinpointing one single package is going to be a lot harder for USPS than UPS/FedEx. It goes back to that old saying, you get what you pay for. UPS and FedEx may be more expensive but they are usually able to track your package down to the truck/sorting facility it's in. Of course, this doesn't mean there aren't issues with those companies, but at least if a box is lost or delayed they can tell you where it is most of the time.

USPS does receive a lot of flak and sometimes you can't really put blame on them. As you said, their traffic is immense compared to the others. However, if you're going to pay close to if not the same anyway, I would bet with the company who has shown better success. A lot of shippers will only ship USPS and others will avoid it completely. As Calihawk mentioned, proper packaging is a must. I find hold for pick up when using USPS to have much better success as well... But that's assuming the package makes it.

I was just gonna post how some guy had a box of EBJD sent to him but in the .5 inch range and they arrived in a week all alive. I sent a box of crayfish once to someone and the USPS goofed and they arrived in a week and they all made it alive. I trust crayfish cause they are bit tough, they can even be out of water for a little while as long as they are moist. Good to hear they are alive.

I will have some pics later tonight for you guys. The seller is Rick also known on Aquabid occasionaly as Rickscics from California, he has produced a genetic line of EBJD that are reaching around 10 inches and it took him many years to work out the genetic defects, but he has produced some monsters out there in Southern California. Those of you who have raised these attractive, but fragile fish can understand the importance of what he has been able to accomplish out there producing these stunning beast. Here is a link for those who haven't seen his Blues

wow that's amazing i would never have though they would have turned up alive, i'm really pleased for you and the fish :)

Great news! I have been following this amazing story from afar....

Great news that they were alive!

Just so you know, Priority Mail tracking Numbers aren't really tracking numbers. They don't tell you hops of transit, only pickup receipt (usually end of day), and delivery date (also usually end of day). Express mail numbers are, but as someone else pointed out, even express is not next day guarantee.

IMO best way to ship is UPS or FEDEX. Call your local shipping outfit and explain what you're expecting and ask for their address. Then instruct your shipper to ship to the outlet and you go there to pick them up. That way you know the fish are kept indoors/ out of weather. Especially important in places that freeze or scorch. Also remember that business addresses ALWAYS have priority over residential addresses. Your beloved fish could still sit inside an non-airconditioned truck from 7am till 2pm or later in 100+ degree heat.

I'm am glad you're fish survived the ordeal! You must credit the shipper on that one. When someone not only cares about the business but the fish as well they should be commended! The fish in the video are absolutely stunning! Their colors are reminiscent of bettas. Again congratulation and good luck! Kinda makes me curious though, I wish you had picks of the unpacking process just to see how well they were shipped LOL!
