I have a fish that someone wants to purchase but I have never mailed or sent live fish nor any animal. Whom should I contact and how should I package the fish. Btw, the fish is a large RTC. Literally about 27". Would be shipping it up north. Any suggestions, tips, advice would be rather useful. Ty MFK

i wouldnt ship a fish that big,, if you really want to i would find a lfs or company that ships fish all time as they would have the proper materials... shipping a fish tha big is really questionable though

I am with flukekiller flukekiller on this one.Shipping small fish is pretty easy, but a monster RTC would be quite a challenge and probably very expensive. I think with the spines you would have to ship the fish in multiple very thick large bags inside a hard sided cooler that was well sealed. The only real tips I can give you is don't use the USPS(long story), and fast the fish for a week or so before you ship it. That way it is not fouling the water.

Ty guys. I'll check out the lfs and see if they can accommodate this. I'll fast this guy first as well

In that case you should be able to find a LFS experienced in shipping fish that size, in some of the smaller towns its difficult to find experienced shippers. If not let us know.

you want to ship a 27" rtc? that's not very logical as theyre so cheap and in most
cases free but if you want to and the buyer is willing to pay the best way to ship
large fish is to pack it multiple times with a portalable battery operated air pump
with strong/new battery to last the time period of the shipping process till it reaches
the buyer. 1 get a water tote put 24-48hr heat packs and line the tote & heat
packs with a pond liner, tape down the liner with duct tape to make sure it doesn't
slip during shipment. 2 if you can find a large enough styrofoam box and lid line
the box with news paper; fill the tote about 35% or enough for fish you dont want
too much water as weight will increase and increase the cost of shipping. use half
tank water and half fresh water. drill a hole in the tote lid and run the air line through.
once tote is all ready tape down the hole the air line is running through and tape down
the tote lid so it doesnt open, make it so its sealed shut so water doesnt come
out at all. 3 once the tote is ready put it in the styrofoam box if not wrap it in styrofoam
like putting in a box then after put it in a reg carboard box. make sure you label it
which is the top and make sure its always in the same position and doesnt get
flipped or anything. put labels "fragile" "this side up" do not flip and blah blah blah.
and your good to ship the fish. just my .02 duct tape is your friend, go crazy with
it lol...
