i dont know if this is normal but my red devil is shivering and shaking all his fins. i noticed abit of white spots on him maybe about 20, there on his body so im gueesing i got a small ick outbrake so for now all i did was boost the temp up to 82-84 anything i should know or do about this?

Water changes. If it doesnt show signs of going away then I would quarantine the fish to another tank and medicate. Some people feel strongly agaisnt medicating a fish but I do it and has helped me out before.

but thats just me.

What are you doing for water changes.

How are you doing water changes? Are you adding anything to the new water?

Sounds like ich or something similar. Definitely an external parasite.

Change 75-80% of the water to eliminate a bunch of the free swimming parasites. Keep the temp where it is and add 1 tablespoon of salt per 10 gallons (you can double that if you don't see improvement after a couple of days).

The salt is most cheaply purchased from a grocery store. Look for "Canning & Pickling Salt." Basically, and pure salt with no anti-caking agents or anything else is fine.

You can add aquarium salt per the instructions on the box or use quick cure. I have used quick cure in the past and it does a really good job IMO.

I agree with this. If you use medication make sure to follow the instructions (like turning off the filter and such).

Quick Cure is a last resort for me, but it definitely works. I'd rather not stress the fish with formalin, etc. and worry about the filter. High levels of salt takes care of most cases if you treat for a couple of weeks.

the thing is i dont think its ick since its not on the fins. shes alone in my 65 gallon with a syno who also has this but alot worse.i thouhgt at first that my red devil musta streesed out my syno so much tht it got ick and that the ick spread to my red devil could this be? i wont need to quarentine her i did a 40% water change yesterday and since i was in a rush today i did a 10% water change today, i will do another 40-50 % water change tommorow since im at work now. i have not used any new products i just take my tap water add some aqua plus declorinator and put it in my tank like ive been doing for the past couple of years. i do have quick cure but its about 3 years old theres no expiration date on it though is it still good?

dont need the meds, just do repeated water changes, and use regular grocery store salt like someone else said its about $.50 per pound, just make sure it is NON iodized, if you try to use iodized salt it will kill your fish. 1 tbsp per 10 gallons should be good, bump the temp up to about 84 turn the lights off and keep going with repeated water changes.
