Dude I think that is taking it to far-he wants to put them in 180 gallon tank! While everyone elses points are valid your statement is really unreasonable!
I agree we should want our fish to grow to as big as they can-not limit them but at the same time I have not seen or heard of Odoes past 14 inches-My friend David has them in a pond-HUGE-close to 5000 gallons-and the Odoe have stayed at one foot.
Amazing about the CK-but I'll say it again not the norm! I provided my CK with more than enough room to reach 40 inches-so you can't say it is the norm-I mean if 1032 gallons isn't enough space than I don't know what is.
 
i know what i'm talking about and people do agree buddy,i will move them too a three hundred when ther like 10 inches, and i might get two more than our maybe 3 more. and fogot people know how educated i am with fish pal

Well I have 3 and they do not school and swim around like I hoped they would. They just scatter, and somtimes 2 will relax togather. I have 3 in a 90 gallon tank, 2 are 4 inches and the big one is 6.

I dont want to hear any negative comments, BECAUSE I AM GETTING A BIGGER TANK, my water is always perfect, and may even trade them for Aces. But they are very cool and eat more then you would know, The 6 inch one eats till he looks way fatter than a hotdog and ate 2 flying fox, so I bet they get fat when adults. Not skittish, love me and guests, will not take anything but live.
 
just throwing this out there ummm fish in the wild have a constant recycled water source. thats why they grow that large and they can swim freely in the rivers. lakes. ocean. whatever else u wanna name off. but the main reason they dont grow that big in aquaria is because they are just using the same water but its not pure so it stunts their growth. but down in florida they have one of them giant groupers the size of a volkswagon bug in a big huge tank. its like the size of a penguin exhibit. but also tho some fish dont need endless amounts of space. like for instance when u go on about how cichlids dont grow to their max size they can get damn close u figure a cichlid will just chill in his territory in the wild and hunt and live out his years. then if he runs out of food then hell move his territory.

Man this is fun to watch... shamrock you should post some pics of this mysterious guy David tanks and pond. I am interested in seeing them.:popcorn:
 
I was qt'ing two 6inch odoes in a 60g while I work on getting my 4x2x2 120g setup, but they started shredding scales off each other with their teeth. Have them in seperate tanks. Not even sure they'd be better in the 120 might have to bump the schedule on getting my 6x3x2 and maybe pick up a couple more to spread agression. lol.

Good thread though.
 
i just ordered four african pikes at 3'' and also a delheizi and a silver dat at 3'' all for my 125gal. i'm going to keep them in there for a year than move them to my 300 gal i'm getting next year. hopefully the four will shoal together:headbang2
