shop light for tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use shop lights for most of my 4 footers. They are cheaper and easier to get. But not as pretty. But if you enclose them in a hood then there is no issues.

I picked up a t12 fixture that is capable of 110 watts. Sure i spent 10$ on the fixture but going to have to spend another 30$ on the light. Might as well buy a tank appropriate, more aesthetically pleasing fixture for 5$ more. And bulbs are much cheaper for t5s than t12s

i lanned to build some type of hood for the tank an make sure i have a few holes for the heat to vent out. an also lan on getting a couple of small fans to help cool it

I wouldn't do it man. One time I put a shop light from Home Depot on my tank and I came home and caught my fish using my miter saw.

I have an 8' shop light on my 210 and will also use it on the bigger tank that is getting built to take its place.

I also got mine at Home Depot, so now I am wondering about my mitre saw... maybe the fish can help build the new tank?
