short body texas and red parrot pair.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just transferred my sb gt fry from my 75 gallon grow out pond to my 90 gallon tank.

I'll have to do an update thread soon and quit derailing yours lol!

tried to get some pictures of the free swimmers today but they move too much. half are in the breeder container and the rest are still in the tank divided from the parents. once in while a fry while get pass the divider and the mom will just eat it up.

Very nice, if I'm not mistaken I see both long and short fry.

A trick I've used to catch very small fry is siphoning them out. Have some one else act as bucket holder/spotter so you can concentrate on getting the fry.

a lot of my fries are dying off! i'm hoping to transfer what's left out to a 10g tomorrow with a turkey baster or siphon.

Good luck, hope you save a ton.

Now since you already have some fry from these two, my suggestion for next time is: bite the bullet and leave them together, do not remove the eggs or fry. I've a feeling you'll get a better survival rate. I never have trouble with my pairs unless the male is ready to spawn again and they still have fry.

Female parrots tend to get extremely defensive of the spawn site, more so than my female Texas by far. It may be prudent to leave just her with the eggs, don't get me wrong, texas males make awesome dad's, I've even had a Male Texas continue raising the fry after the female was gone..did an excellent job too. If at all possible leave the fry with both parents, or just the female, for at least a week..preferably longer.

yea i'm definitely gonna let the parents take care of the fries on the next batch. i think the mom will do a better job than i did. lol

so happy to see this, i hope you get some survivors and i hope to see them grown out, will be very interesting, ive wanted to do this cross, unfortunatly im on a hobby break traveling (currently in australia) but I am hopping to go to thailand and then back to canada and get back to the fishkeeping work with this mix. Good luck. I had huge SB tex spawn, lost almost all to nitrate poisoning ...but almost all were short body ...izzy's look amazing as well...cool to see another person with a common interest...good luck and keep us updated as much as possible, ill be watching this thread :)
