Do you guys ever notice when you go in a shop you leave with another problem that was never there?

This is what happened with the imrc linkage for me, I am 100% certain it was fine when I took it in for the plugs & wires because I started out seeing if I could reach to do it myself.

Mad at myself for not taking pictures before the repairs that day or I would have had proof.

The worst offense of this is my friend had his brakes done at pepboys. When his car was done the battery was shot, his cel came on and a wiring harness in his dash was toast. For brakes?! What the heck

I have a go to mechanic that I have dealt with for years and have never used the Boys but I have been told that they are the worst place to take your car.

Them and walmart. My wife had her cars oil changed at a walmart before we got married. They used loctite to seal the drain plug...

Damn,I wasn't aware Walmart even had an auto service dept...guess I shouldn't be shocked that some of them do though.

It seems that no matter where you go these days, you will always get at least one sly little B****** that does something sneaky IMO.

I go to Mr Lube to get my oil changed since it allows me to be present to watch, but I don't allow them to check my air filters anymore. The first time I went there I let them do the regular service and the schmuck that checked the air filters didn't close the housing correctly, so I was getting pauses while driving down the highway as soon as I left the place. Pulled over, popped the hood and saw the housing open wide at the bottom.

Hello; Two things come to mind. First is that maybe the mechanic for some reason does not want to have to fool with you or perhaps your car and will only do it for a sufficent amount. There were a number of people that were only able to get me to work on their cars once. Sometimes it was the person, others it was the car.
Another thing is that you now have gone to other mechanics and their rates are quoted as much better. At least you will not have to be overcharged by this person again.
Back when I did work on the cars of others, a few did come back and try to imply that I was responsible for some new problem. As I learned early to keep notes about everything I touched, the new problem was often on a system or part of the car that I had not touched. It was also not unusual to later find that the same people had tried the same tactic on other mechanics in the area.
Having been ripped off (from my point of view) a few times led me to learn how to service and repair my own cars. I especially liked the posts of the female forum member who took the repair of her car into her own hands. Often nobody will take care of your business better that you. That is the second thing that came to mind, you can learn how to service your car and save a lot of money.
Good luck.

Hello; I have used blue loctite on the oil drain plugs of my personal vehicles for many years now. The blue stuff is removable and helps ensure that the plug stays in place. The red loctite should not be used on parts that need to be removed such as drain plugs.

Im well versed in loctite and not knocking it. If your drain plug is leaking it can easily be replaced or you can use silicone sealant. Walmart only used loctite to cover up the fact that they stripped the bolt so bad it no longer sealed. Ive been doing oil changes for multiple decades and never needed a sealer. Not saying they are bad by any means but in this case it was just used to hide damage and thats what bugs me

First of all a chiltons or haynes manual for your vehicle is worth it's weight in gold. You can fix most problems with a little elbow grease and a few tools if you have one of those. Youtube is also very helpful for this.
Second, years ago before we met my "wife" took her eclipse to walmart for an oil change. Well the engine seized about a mile down the road because the forgot to refill it. They wouldn't pay for the damage either since she signed the forms saying that their work was ok. Ended up totaling the car since the engine needed to be replaced after that.
