Huh, mine are growing like weeds. They're getting feeders, market shrimp, and freeze dried krill. They haven't taken pellets yet, but I haven't tried real hard to get them on them. They've also take oysters/clams, but those dirty the water up real bad, so I don't feed them very often.

Two of my shorties are getting pretty big. When I take them out to transfer to the pond, I'll take some measurements and lots of pics. I'll post some pics of mine up when I get home. They're gaining weight pretty well. They don't seem to hold onto their weight as long as my Florida's do after a feeding, but the Florida's are older, and not as active, so that might have something to do with it.

Mine have also calmed down considerably. They're still more active than the Florida's, and occasionally get spooked and freak out, but not very often. They've gotten to the point that they beg for food just like the Florida's do, and if I take the top off the tank, they come right up to the surface.

bump. gonna keep bumping this as long as i have them. hopefully some of the other people with them will chime in. they are still hyper. no matter how hard i try i cant put wieght on these little guys. hoping to get them bigger but nothing. they constantly watch us at the glass. if we touch the glass even for a second, they are right there trying to figure out if its food. moving in about 2 or 3 days into a new house we just bought. let yall know how they move.

Are they putting on length but still staying skinny, or have they not put on any length either? Because mine have grown several inches since I got them.

i don't have much to add to the thread, but just wanted to let the 2 guys who still have a good number of sn gars that you're doing a great job for keeping the skittish fish! a pictorial update would be great -and appreciated;)

I'll try to take some new pics when I get home. I've been busy digging a pond and getting ready to build a deck (which I just started last night).

These are definitely unique little guys. I love my Florida's, they're very chill relaxed fish, but these shorties are just as attentive to me when I'm in the room, and are more active. I wish I had them in a larger tank, they'd probably be cruising back and forth all day long.

Here are some pics of the shortnose. The first couple are of the one I added to my 125g tank with the florida gars and black sand substrate. Check out the pattern on his forehead...

The rest are still in a 55g growout (I know, too small, but I'm hoping to get the pond done in less than a month).
