Jd of school of clown loaches ime bichirs are virtually indestructable and usually left alone by most cichlids
 
how large are the inhabitants of your tank? if they are babies, adding should be fine. If they are adults or sub adults, it might be harder to introduce new tankmates, depending on what you add in. imo depending the variables, introducing some dither fish, algae eater, catish should all work out.

The Jag and Stals are around 8" and the Carpintis is around 5" .... not sure why but they looked stretch when posted to the thread.

Scales do look different but I only think the face looks different because of an elongation effect of the camera.

what I was trying to say is there is no way you can get the two mixed up sure they are similiar they are the same family but they are also different in many ways..
