A few months ago I had to get rid of a 75 gallon tank before I really wanted to because we had a baby on the way and I would be losing my fish room to the baby unfortunately and my wife wanted the room dont like 8 months before the baby was born. I decided to put the fish from that tank into my 300 gallon for the time being till I could get rid of them. The fish consisted of a few peacock bass which I wanted to keep and some smaller fish like 2 geophagus and a catfish that was growing too slow. In the 300 gallon is a mbu puffer. I woke up to this tragedy this morning after months of cohabitation.

if it happens again I'd be worried. the fish could have died or got killed by the other fish as well over night and then the Mbu had a snack after it had died

I agree, if its only that one fish then chances are it probably died and the puffer thought there was food in the tank and gave it a bite to check it out...

However, if more fish end up like that or you see quite serious bite marks on your other fish then it maybe time to worry about the puffer not being so friendly...

Watch for any aggression from the MBU. But chances are it died in the night and the others saw it as a snack. Might be wise to test the water and then change it.

Surprised it took months, really if my experience with their smaller cousins, the brazilian puffer, is any indication. So many tetras with their throats torn out in that tank...

I have been changing the water every day right now. Like the other members have said it most likely could of died during the night. I hadn't really been paying attention to that particular fish and the puffer hasn't even fin nipped. I've had this puffer for like 3 months now but in the store he was eating goldfish which I never have seen a puffer do. He was in a tank with like 50 armatus. These armatus are getting really big at this point. I'm not even sure what the store will do with them.

The store would need to become a vendor in order to sell here...

Definitely not ideal feeding goldies to an MBU but because he had been given live feeders before, just keep an eye out, although it seems like you keep him well fed otherwise im sure more fish would have been killed off by now...

I forgot about that homer, they would indeed need to become a vendor to sell here which would be something to consider for them if they became interested. There are always ways to get around that though.
