Right. So feeders just swim straight up to a predator head on and let themselves get swallowed? Some species of gar manuever prey to go down head first after catching them, but in the overwelming majority of cases the larger fish chases the feeder and catches it from behind, swallowing the fish tail first. This is why spines evolved in fish in the first place, to make it harder for them to be eaten. The intelligence of a predator fish has nothing to do with whether or not the swallow a fish head first.
Anyway, most cons up to 1.5 inches don't have spines yet so they should be fine to use as feeders.
