Should I buy him?

I watched him for a few minutes and he was pretty feisty..... held his own. I don't think it'll do too bad competing for food, esp. if I throw the food in his direction. I wouldn't dedicate an entire tank for him..... was thinking he could find his way in a community tank. It would probably be a couple of bucks if not free...... just thought he might be pretty cool come the 12" mark!

Only question is, if the community doesn't work out, what will you do with it?

Put it in a spare 60 or give it away...... Baracuda will take him, he takes everything I give away! :ROFL:

Maybe he'll get good and healthy, grow to a foot long and eat the rest of your community. Then you won't have to worry about giving him his own tank-just kidding!
I've never seen a fish for sale without a tail, he must be tough to have made it this far.
 
I recently bought a jd with a similar deformity and it was actually terrorizing all of the oscars that it was with. I haven't seen it much around the pond though, but I rarely see any of the fish in there, lol.
 
I bought a deformed jag from PetSmart a few months ago just because I knew no one else would. He's been in with my Convict breeding colony since I got him. Check out this face.

He's a very slow grower but eats well. He went from less than 1" to almost 3" in six months or so.

I'd probably get the tail-less jag. I'm sure you could talk the owner of the LFS into free or nearly free considering no one will probably buy it and he'll have to feed it.

LOL Sean!! Hey cant pass up a free fish...if i cant keep it, I can always trade it for something else...Anyways i saw this fish today man...iono. Kinda felt bad for it but i already have a jag....Looked weird swimming like that...
