Different cat amigo, some can hide their entire lives. S. lucipinnis (which I assume is what the OP owns) are generally pretty social, and pretty active catfish. Other species, not so much.

Whoah! Good luck with themI just picked up a breeding group of 8 adults, looks like 4 males, and 4 females, two are gravid. These cats haven't hidden for more than a few minutes after landing into their new 6ft tank. Constantly out and about, singly, and swimming in group formation. Keep the faith!
