Should I let my FH's meet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fair enough, though it's just surprising that you know all these other things about keeping FH but not one of the most basic and well publicized (that they generally don't like other fish and hate each other, and there's a high chance they'll tear each other up if put together in the same tank), so we naturally assumed you were a FH newbie and thus gave you extra advice that we mistakenly thought would help you out. But nobody was trying to be a prick, just saying.
I mean the way it came out sounded very aggressive and I was already in a bad mood so I could have potentially overreacted, and I do know for the most part that FH's love their own space however I have seen multiple people successfully keep both yet I wanted to be sure 100%.

Funny that you feel the way that you do, considering how you returned the favor in spades. Prick, dick, and a word that you didn't even understand the meaning of, narcissistic. Too funny. I gave you solid sound advice, no beating around the bush, AND I have kept several FH and actually know what I am talking about. Buy hey, feel free to do as you please.
Just because I used a word that didn't necessarily fit in the moment doesn't mean it may not be true out of this conversation. I apologise for the way I acted due to me being in a bad mood however that still doesn't change the way I felt that you approached the whole situation, you could have 100% chosen a much better set of wording which wouldn't have come across the way it did. I won't deny the fact that you did give me advice which I will take into consideration and I do appreciate it. I have also gone to multiple flowerhorn breeders and asked for their opinions and they all said it depends on whether or not the FH or Pleco will be aggressive towards eachother. I've provided the necessary hiding spots and as of right now due to their sizes I still personally think it will be okay, but if you really don't I'd still appreciate that input right now. I truthfully got the pleco mainly for the cleaning aspect as well as how pretty it was and I didn't necessarily want to put him downstairs in my other tank, but if i have too I will.

FYI ..... I don't get paid for this. I'm at work, just filling in some blanks on a break, and was attempting to help you. Read into it any way that you want, but I suggest you re-read my initial comment. Especially this part; 3. if the female rejects the males attempt to pair up, he's as good as dead. Always best to use a female FH that is smaller then the male due to their hyper aggression when spawning.

As far as breeding in general, IMO if one is breeding just for the sake of breeding two FH, it's a waste of time. If one isn't improving the strain, hence the hobby as a whole, it's best not to breed at all - especially considering the potential of what could happen - as in one or both fish getting torn up, or dead. Next thread will be asking how to treat Hexamita, which will have been brought on from the stress of a forced courtship.

I say go for it, but carefully. Keep the divider ready, maybe just let them spend a few hours together at a time for awhile.

One trick i learned that seemed to work when introducing cichlids to each other was dramatically increasing the flow in the tank. Like maybe put a big powerhead on one side of the tank. They'll be too busy swimming to fight initially. Dont keep it like this forever, mind you, just maybe their first week together.

Of course theres always the risk one or both will be killed by the other. Thats just the nature of the beast im afraid.

I see absolutely no point in breeding fish that for the most part will result in producing a lot of lower quality Trimac looking offspring. Backfromthedead - do you own any FH, have you ever owned any FH? I'm just curious, as I'm at a loss as to why anyone would promote creating and circulating more Trimac looking low grade FH in this hobby?

And OP, that's not me picking on your fish, that's me telling you straight up. If you like your fish that's great, all I'm saying is keep them in your tanks, don't spread those genes around. So once you remove breeding from the equation, it obviously makes no sense to put these two together. If you desire fish that look more along Trimac lines, get some pure Trimac and work with those.

Once again, I never asked nor do I give a **** about your opinion and stand on breeding them, as you said, I'll do as I please, and just for you I'll breed them and personally send you photos of the fry once they've grown up, just so you can rest easy xoxo. People have different reasons for breeding and you're ****ing retarded if you think that the only appealing things regarding them is purely their kok and flowerlines. Sometime's ugly is cute, for instance childhood you xoxo
