Here's the story. I recently got a new 253 gallon tank. It's sitting where the former 135 was and no sorry, I can't keep both. The 135 had a breeding pair of Festae. For the new tank, I was going to do an aggressive Central American community setup...that's where the Festae are out of place. Here's what I want to stock:

Amphilophus Trimaculatus
Amphilophus Labiatus or other Amphilophus sp.
Vieja Argentea
Vieja Synspilium
Nandopsis tetracanthus or Herichthys Carpintis Escondido (or both)
Parachomis Managuense

6 Barbus Filamentosis
3 Red Hooks

So I put it to you, my fellow MFK'rs. What should I do?

1. Sell them. They'll be out of place and ruin the C/A theme.

2. Keep them...they're beautiful fish. You should be ashamed of yourself for even considering option 1.

3. Just keep the female? How could you let her go? Look at her amazing beauty.

4. Just keep the male. Forget the female...males get bigger and meaner.

Well your could just go with a SA/CA theme. Although breeding pairs can cause real problems in community tanks. I would still find a way to keep them.

There is one other way. I would have to scrap my other plan to get a male Dovii for my other tank. I could do my CA tank and give the Festae the 156. I really want them but I want my Dovii too. What to do, what to do.

jam them all in one tank . thats what i do. u should see my 150 its chuck full of sa/ca.

i'd just throw them, in the 253 with the other guys

I would scrap the plan for the Dovi and put a Moto in the community

Keep them Balton. Do not let them go. They are AWESOME. Just try a smaller community with the pair. Same fish just get rid of the Trimac and maybe the Jag. If it's 8 feet I feel you can get away with a community of larger cichlids with the Festae pair as long as ther is TONS of plant cover rock structures and such. I know people are going to disagree but I think it might be able to be done.

Rofl, you want a peaceful cichlid community and you're getting a Trimac for it? Haha, you're funny.

he said aggressive

I say keep them. Not only are true festaes more rare IMO, but ones that look that good, wow. AND if you had the dovii he would eventually need the huge tank all to himself anyway.

really I like dovii myself, but if I had those fish and I was in your position I would keep them as long as possible.
