You really think the rich fat cat created the team name to honor them? I think he just wanted something cool that hadn't already been done that had some historical or regional significance. Could care less about the potential impact

Here is the facts. The team originally was called the Boston Braves in there first year. In there 2nd year they hired a Native American head coach and also had several Native American players. They didn't like the name Braves so they choose Redskins.

So you think a bunch of native americans who where on this team including the native american coach wanted to have a name that would be offensive to there own people.

Totally missed the point on that one, and the intended sarcasm.

Back in the day, it was OK to have a separate "Negro League" with teams like the Black Socks and Clowns. And folks the majority of folks were OK with segregated leagues (and segregation in general).

It was OK to have caricatures of Native Americans, blacks and other ethnicities.

Lot's of stuff that was OK back in the '30s is viewed as racist now, like white people performing in blackface.

Including calling Native Americans "Redskins"...

I'm a fan. And I'd like to see the name change.

I hear what your saying. But back then even though blacks and whites were separated is was by choice. Whites didn't want to play with blacks. Redskins was not named by white people it was chosen by native americans who were on that team. They thought the name Braves was more offensive to them but Redskins was not.

Stop confusing them with facts. They want to be offended then let them.
