The pacu has always been causing trouble:irked: people think when they catch a pacu its a piranha. NOW every states trying to ban piranhas. Well my question to you is should we ban the pacu:banhim: i think we should cause they cause nothing but trouble and they get really huge

Not nessecarily BAN the Pacu, If we are to use the same Bad/Big fish Ban that means no Arrowana,Gar,Pike,Red-Tail, however I side with the RFI to restrict the sale of these fish to the few that indeed CAN take care of such fish. First step would be to ask Chains such as Petsmart and Petco to stop the sale of these fish (Pacus dont sell well anyway). That's the first and MOST important step.

i do. their big, ugly, and useless.

and if they do ban piranhas everywhere then the gov. is just gonna be dumb and wonder why people are still catching them. personally i think the fishermen shouldn't be fishermen since they STILL can't even tell the difference when its been on the news a million times explaining the differences. the fact that they are fishermen is a disgrace to then complain about piranhas.

at every other dorm here theres some dude or fat goth chick with a redbelly pacu in their 15 gallon and a bucket of goldfish with an airstone by it.

Regulations on the sale of fish punish those who plan to do right by their fish, and have no effect whatsoever on the idiots who buy fish without knowing what the hell they're doing. So they can't buy a Pacu. They'll just buy some other fish, and kill it. Meanwhile, people who desire to own Pacu (because they are NOT worthless, but are, in fact, interesting fish with a lot of personality, if kept CORRECTLY) are unable to do so. The result? The idiots go buy Oscars, Aros, Gars, etc., and kill them, and responsible fishkeepers are punished for no reason.

Well, at least in my area they don't have you scared these Pacu owners?
It works very well....Just don't let them escape into the wild:nilly:

Not a whole ban there is responsible owners/keepers who can house the pacu out there. I had them before sold too me as "red belly piranha" when i was younger. Didn't really know the differences being a kid. Was never told they get huge so quick, but then again i should have read more into the species i donated my two to a local fish store, since i wasn't capable in keeping them for life.

I have seen news post stating they were "Piranha" when in fact were "Pacu". The media depicts what they want to terrorize the population in blowing something out over nothing. Omnivore Pacu's? Not a whole big worry of devasting native fish species. Is what they become so concerned about state by state placing bans/ or permits for ownership on certain species which they find to be a threat to U.S. waterways.

what they government should do is promote new penalties for releasing non native animal into the wild. slap a poster up at fish stores or pay for air time on tv. if people think there gonna get a 5000 dollar fine just for releasing their fish they wont do it.

and of course after they do rescind all the bans of previous fish. or atleast allow permits to a average joe after he signs a paper.

if you ban something for a stupid and easily avoidable reason people will just do it illegally. as always focus on education as a deterant. they a just finally starting to do that in the drug war. some of the commercials are obviously stupid and dont deter because the drugs arent that dangerous(think about the one of the girl passed out from drinking too much, that one didnt have any scary facts, but the faces of meth probably did its job.)
