Could go with Diamond Sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii) they don't get more than 4ft. Reguardless you need a huge tank or pond.

where'd you get the shovelnose sturgeon!? =0 it looks so awesome...and is theis truly in with all the other tropicals?

i was just wondering if anyone kept them or knew about them in captivity?

Yes, I've kept shovelnose sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus platorynchus) They are easy to keep but need an open large aquarium. they eat black worms and earth worms when they get bigger. i would love to have a couple more. Mine died when it was squashed by a falling rock! I had to transfer it to a small tank for a couple of days and it was squashed while in the small tank. it was about 9 inches long. in the home aquarium these fish seldom get more than 18" to 24" inches long. they are better for captivity than most sturgeon because they are so much more slender and flexible than most sturgeon. They also do well at warmer temps than most sturgeon. Make sure you get captive breed fish, they aren't endangered over parts of their range but are taking a beating from over fishing and competition from fish like carp.

Check the IUCN red list, I'm pretty sure the shovelnose are endangered. They're on the comeback, and I think you can get some for reputable dealers. There are a few species of sturgeon that are only vulnerable (tbh I'd love to keep some in an outdoor pond)

In some areas they are endangered but in others they are fished for regularly and quite common, they are being repatriated to areas where they used to live by captive breeding... and for the record shovelnose sturgeon do not require a 10,000 gallon tank, I would think a 100 would be close to minimum size but a 360 would be ideal..
