I will try to make my next sump like this design with my filter sock 3/4 out of the water with no dividers. I see now y I do not need dividers.

Hmmm, perhaps it's not too late to do a bit of redesign on my 75g sump and just go all ceramic... DAMN YOU ALL FOR GOOD IDEAS. Time to tear apart AGAIN.... but at least this time I was smart and used weak silicone and not rtv108.... :D

Thanks. I thought you would have wanted them to be mostly above the water, I presume they work well when submerged too?

I also notice you guys seem to run most/all of your media submerged. I've been trying to incorperate a decent amount of above water media into my design, which seems to make the design more complicated. Should I bother, or just use submerged?

hey david..here's mine for my loach tank...i just use the stuff(floss) from spotlight,2 drip tray's 1 over the floss then over the bio ball's then the rest of the sump is jam packed with ceramic rings and coral rock..

this sump filter's my way overstocked 65 plus clown loaches 300lt tank..

I'm doing the same setup as jose, i got the idea from him.
now my question is, if you were to take a large tube with a lid (so it sits out of the water), drill a bunch of holes in it, then fill it with scrubbies, then set it on top of the basket and hold it down with something heavy, Would that also work for more bio?

Yes, that would be a type of bio tower. You can even take it a step further and put the large tube on the outside of your stand, next to it or behind the aquarium. Then run your over flow into that tube and connect the tube to your sump. So your bio tube can run from the aquarium water surface level all the way to the top of your sump. I just set this system up on my 360 (signature), I have about a 4 foot drop through bio media before it reaches my sump. Great wet/dry filtration.

Thanks Ronnie, I really have to come check out your tanks one day, 65 loaches must look awesome!

I've come up with a simple design incorperating the filter socks and both exposed and submerged media, and it should be able to be made out of the glass from my Mk1 failsump, I just need to get around to pulling it to bits asap.
