Show Your Natives/Native Tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here's an action shot of my LMB and one of my Green Sunfish just chilling on the bottom. Along with the pleco, they're the lone habitants of our 125. We plan on going fishing this weekend, so maybe they'll get a few friends.

What temp do you guys keep your LMB's at? I was thinking about starting a native tank. Anyone keep them with oscars? I JUST bought a new tank so I didn't have to borrow my friends anymore, and it would be great to not have to get another one... yet

I keep mine at around 80. The ponds I catch mine from get anywhere from 92 in the summer to 50's in the winter. They are pretty hardy fish.

Here is a few from the old tank(s). Having a hard time locating my full tank shots.
The one with the blue streaks on his face and a pretty big mouth is a green eared sunfish right? I have one of those and was wondering if for sure that is what it is.

These are the newest pics I have (click for bigger).

Longear sunfish

Checkered madtom

I can't ever get a good pic of the madtom. He sits in his little pot waiting for us to feed him and rarely comes out.
Incredible Sunfish!!!

This catfish came from the creek behind my house. Its a springfed creek in Anniston Alabama. I'm not sure what kind of catfish it is.

My tank is 55 gallon, and is all native species except for 5 feeder goldfish that got too big to eat. I keep a female Eastern River Cooter, one 4.5 inch LMB, the unidentified catfish, and several small crawfish.

Any help on the catfish ID would be greatly appreciated.. I think maybe a madtom of some sort because it was like an inch and a half long when caught back in the summertime, and now he's like 5 inches.. Thanks for the awesome native posts and all your help!

How do you keep your Muskies from eating your other inhabitants?

I had a Bass up until a few months ago when i fed him what i thought was a dying cory cat, a few days later the bass died and i didnt know why. Then i rrealized that corys have a kinda spike on there dorsal fin, and im guessing it was stuck in the bass as he tried to swallow it.

Moral of the story dont feed pet fish to pet fish!
