Black Eel Tailed Catfish, Neosilurus ater

Is this different to the usual eel tail catfish you see around?
I got a tiny one as an impulse buy a few months ago and Couldn’t see it and assumed it had been eaten by something, a few months later he popped out from wherever he has been hiding tripled in size and vacuuming up any food he could.

Nah this is a different species. The most common one is Tandanus Tandanus, which is the one that people fish for round the murray, gets to ~1m.
This guy is from the tropics up round the NT .
Tandanus get huge and are pigs! They get super fat as well.
Going to get one for my pond with my bass in the future. Come to think of it, that's another rare fish. My Australian bass

That’s what you get for impulse buying fish, I should really know better by now.

Yeah. Tandanus Tandanus is by far the most common species available. There's been some porochilus rendahli floating around recently, a species I have to.
