hehe funny thing was i bought my salvini when they were smaller from my lfs, the guy almost swore that she was a definite MALE, i said OK but can i get a different looking one for 'his' mate. hoping to get a pair i chose a smaller, uglier, lesser colourful sal...he said YEP she's a female alright... 1 mth later... lo and behold... my definite 'male' laid eggs and was fertilised by the now same size beautiful 'female'.:headbang2

this also gave me a surprising conclusion along with other similar experiences contrary to popular belief which says... the bigger frys from the same batch are definite males.
my experiences dictate that up to a certain size (mostly around the 5cms mark or some fish are bigger) the bigger frys are females, then after that, males will grow faster and outgrow females of the same batch.

i noted this on my viejas, sals, possibly jags and others.
anyone had similar experiences?

here mine :) boy or girl??????????

Solid black blotch on the gill plate and the dorsal fin indicates female. Males can have one or the other but not both. Body shape and the lack of a distinctive dot on your fish appears male to me.
