Solid black blotch on the gill plate and the dorsal fin indicates female. Males can have one or the other but not both. Body shape and the lack of a distinctive dot on your fish appears male to me.

definitely a she. black spot on the cheek plate gives it away!!

oh haha...thanks. i hadn't even given much thought or done any research yet about whether it was a male or female. thanks for the info
