I could take every Mayan I catch.. and Every Tilapia I catch down here and slaughter them and they wouldnt even BEGIN to dent the population... At all. There are places you could catch 100's of these and still wouldnt do anything...

Dude, no joke, if you catch various sizes of these fish, you could sell them to your lfs or have your own shop here on mfk or online. I see lakes as pools of water with money swimming around here and there. lol. No seriously, it'd be a good way to make some side cash. People over here on the west coast, dont have these wonderful species in our lakes, we got boring trout and bass, nothing worth keeping in tanks. You could get something started, I know I would. :headbang2. Let me know if you do end up, cause I might be interested in the near future, once I get a larger tank.

The setup would be a headache and a half. Could be done. Mayan Salvini Pbass in broward but its illegal to have and keep small pbass... Down in dade red devil firemouth convict...

have you actually seen the firemouth and convicts?

I have actually seen both. The convict pond was dry as a rock last time I was there . Its fed by water that seemed to come through hole in rock via canal.

Shallow 10 foot diameter "pond" bordered by rocks caught big nice jewels there but not a convict bit.

I am going back within couple weeks the most now that rain must have filled it back up. I hope they are back. I have net now and hope to net them for pic.

Firemouths by highway roadside "pond" and local golf course. I have firemouths myself so I wont mistake them for other cichlids but I didnt "stock" them lol they were there way before I set foot in Florida.

There color is bit diff than my FM .They have no blue on fin borders.
