Here&There
My pair of Siamese algae eaters have been acting strange lately. I have zero experience with breeding (aside from the kind we humans do) so I don't know what to look for. They circle each other in a kind of jerky fashion and their colors fade in and out as they are doing so. This is different from their normal behavior and all water parameters are good, so I thought they might be getting ready to breed. Anyone out there have any tips or experience? Thanks in advance.

I may be wrong, but in general I understood not to keep these fish together, as you are likely to end up with one...

These guys are squabblers, but never do serious harm to themselves, and in groups they are quite entertaining actually.
It sounds like they are just sparring - but how big are they?

yeah they fight abit but no harm happens they loose ther colours while doing this, i bought 3, 1 went within minites i fort it jumped as i was cleaning the condenstation tray and couldnt find the body when i pulled it out so i didnt no what happened to it, i bought another 1 as i didnt think they got eaten as the they same size of my cichlid and another 1 has gone looks like 1 of my cichlid has got a fetish for sae they are good algea cleaners, as stated before no report has been done on breeding them good if you have but prob not, they say keep them in atleast groups of 3 iam getting another 3 big 1s.

They're about 5+ inches long

I've kept SAEs off and on for many years, but this behavior is new to me.

5 inches is larger, so who knows? Keep us posted!

You might be thinking of some type of Siamese fighting fish, but these are the algae eaters that look like flying foxes. So goes it with common names. I believe the latin is Crossocheilus siamensis.
