Last i checked a 55g isn't "monster" and who decides what is and what isn't anyways?

Bettas happen to be one of my fav fish, big attitude and personality for a small package. I've seen them at work gill flaring at larger cichlids in tanks next to them.

It will work fine, just keep an eye out for fin nipping. In a tank that big i would not worry about the betta doing any harm as they are very slow swimmers compared to whats in there. And they are no more likely to eat the fry than the parents.
appreciate the input,,know a betta isnt a monster fish but hey,,i gotta keep mama happy,,,thank you very much for ur help.......ps..my tanks have oscars, tiretrack eel,,clown knife (black)..3 tinfoil barbs a violet goby and a pleco

It's always cool to see the betta freed from it's tiny bowl. The betta will probably be weak from living in essentially a cup for its life, but he will strengthen up quickly.
betta had its own 5 gal tank,,thought he wud be more happy with company,,,tyvm 4 ur help

It depends on the fish, platys seem to pick at the fins of bettas and male bettas often fight with the brighter colored platys. Bettas will also eat small fry, but then so do platys and mollies.
mama wants sum of them guppys u got pictured,,they will live in a 55 gal tank full of mollies, platy`s,swordtails and now 1 betta...thanks 4 ur help

Well, perhaps he has a different taste for fish than you do. Maybe he likes keeping smaller fish in big tanks.

Back to the topic. With such a large tank, there should not be many problems. However, the betta will eat the fry.
thanks for ur help..appreciate it..jus tryin to keep mama happy ya know

We are also here to help newer hobbyists, most people start with smaller tanks and fish then work their way up. Even those who keep large tanks and fish may have a fondness for others as well, some of my favorite fish are quite small, the pygmy and dwarf sunfishes. Brook stickle backs are also little monsters, at least in attitude.
