Sick Acara help wanted please?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have not dosed anything , since he wasnt giving any signs of a sick fish such as not eating , clamped fins ect.. Also he has been this way for roughly 2 1/2 months , but I feel has gotten slightly worst as of late. If I "scare" him by kocking on the tank he is capable of swimmimg away very fast but then back to the bottom dragging himself and loosing balance. I always feed peas once a week to all my fish and always skip one day of feeding weekly , they get a good mix of North fin , Hikari pellets which I always soak prior to serving and they also get Omega One Flakes, once a week a serving of Brine Shrimp and Blood Worms.
I was also leaning towards a potential neurological issue.

Would it be best to QT and try some Prazipro as suggested? If so for how long to see if things may get better ?

Would add to the main tank. If it’s infectious then the other fish are being exposed. My suggestion.

Sounds like a bladder disorder. Prazipro may work or it could be permanent. Some say peas help but you say you already do this. Something could be compressing the bladder. 2 months is a long time.

kno4te kno4te Is there any partucular reason why you are suggesting praziquantel?

I would not move the fish either. It seems content where it is and extra stress is no good.

Also, the fact that the fish has lasted in this state for so long leads me to believe that it is either not a disease or is most likely parasitic. Parasites dont tend to kill the host.

Also, prazi treats tapeworms and flukes. Typical signs are segmented poop or fish scraping of objects. It is not typical for tapeworms to affect the nervous system. .I dont see it very fitting in this situation. I would personaly do flubendazole in the water and feed with hex shield.

Parasites can get into the bloodstream and do all sorts of symptoms or damage. They are also more likely to affect just one fish as they are normally present in tanks but affect only stressed individuals

If it's neurologic Prazi could work if it's a parasite. That would eliminate that possibility. Parasites can also affect the bladder.
Bladder problems can be tough to solve.
A lot of people swear by the peas. Also Epsom salts.
This video seems to be similar to what is being explained.

Prazi has very limited effect on parasites,if any

I agree on epsom salts.I already suggested in my first post magnesium sulfate, but delivered in the gut via feeding, not in the water.

If it’s from whirling syndrome then prazipro will treat it. It’s from a protozoa. Just from seeing the fish in the video. It’s hard to make much out at all.

Can’t say if it’s a parasite but it seems like it’s something effecting the nervous system. Back end doesn’t move much. Not much eye movement.

The OP can treat as he/she feels fit. I’m not against adding the worm/parasite meds.

There is also General Cure.
Hope I don't get blasted for bringing that up.
Really thinking this is a bladder problem though. It may be tough to beat this problem.
