Sick Acara help wanted please?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it’s from whirling syndrome then prazipro will treat it. It’s from a protozoa. Just from seeing the fish in the video. It’s hard to make much out at all.

I think it is protozoa too, if disease related, hence suggesting either metro/hexshield, gut delivered magnesium sulfate or/and flubendazole. They all have affect against various protozoa.
I am not aware of prazi having any effect on protozoan infections. It is effective against parasitic flat worms mostly from what I know but it does have some effect against some external parasites such as trichodina which are normally non-pathogenic but can become so.

And its possible not to be a disease, as already mentioned, but some sort of internal blockage, etc..The fish is living and eating so it doesn't seem life threatening but if it can be helped, its no harm. I can see the poor thing wants to live :)

There is also General Cure.
Hope I don't get blasted for bringing that up.
Really thinking this is a bladder problem though. It may be tough to beat this problem.

API General Cure is an option I suppose, being a combo of prazi and metro.

I think the OP has some info to ponder about and decide what they'd like to do. I think we're all doing our best to guess what it might be..

Good luck.

Copy that.

So much great info! I really appriciate it! Wait so which route should I take if I also believe it is something potentially effecting the nervous system? Like kno4te kno4te mentioned his back end does not move much , eyes dont move much either and even his gilles seem to move less then my other fish.

Is it the "Flubendazole in the water and feed with hex shield" that you suggested C Coryloach ?

Yes, you can take that route depending what you have available to purchase. Flubendazole in the water and New Life Spectrum hexshield( it is med infused food) will hit quite a broad spectrum of protozoa and potential parasitic worms. They're also quite safe to do in the main tank.

To elaborate further, if you are confused whether to take the praziquantel route, flubendazole treats what prazi does and much more. It makes no sense to be "washing yourself with a hose, when you can take a shower". It is also a safer med, including for young fish and fry. Make sure you do get FLUbendazole not FENbendazole. In the UK they sell it as Kusuri wormer plus.

Whether it helps your fish is yet to be seen but it's no harm treating a tank once in a while with antiparasitic and anti de-worming meds. It will do no harm. It is also biodegradable, no need to chemically remove as it does so itself within 4 days.

Okay perfect , I will try the Flubendazole route. I am from Canada , It seems really scares around here but I found this canadien website who sells it and ships it https://angelfins.ca/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=47 Unless their is a brand like Seachem or API that sells something?

Thanks again , really appreciate it.

Yes, that's the one. I don't think API or Seachem do it. It may be sold as Flubenol as well but that's targeted at deworming pigs :), although it can be used on fish with proper dosage.

You are not bothering me at all. Yes, that's flubendazole but I'd go with the kusuri dewormer you posted the link for in your previous post as it is aimed at fish and the dosage will not be confusing.
