near but far
the other day i did my normal 35-40% weekly water change to my 125g tank that currently houses my 6" black aro. Well that night i heard um like freaking out and panicing like there was something chasing it. Noticed through all of that it had a hard time staying horizontal, it was like his tail was heavy and kept pulling um down. Now it hardly eats and its beginning to bug me. filtration is one ac110 and two sponge filters 1 large and 1 medium. Its a dark room with no lights only the tank light. Any idea of what could be going on?

BTW ive been using prime declorinator for awhile now but, only recently got the bigger bottle. Noticed that since i can unscrew the cap and pour that there are tiny black specs floating in it, is that normal?

TIA

i have a 10" RTG and I only do a little more than 10% water change a week. I've got 2 hang filters Aquaclear110 and Marineland Emperor. My lfs said that anything more than 25% is too much of a change in water quality for the aro esspecially in PH. So only do a little more than 10% rightnow. i've Done 3 weeks worth and my RTG is still happy and fine. If its just 1 aro in a 125g and you have a decent filter i dont think you need to do 35 to 45% changes weekly. I also add about 1soup spoon of seasalt to the 10% of water change a week. test the waters with kits and temp. should be around 82F

You do water changes to remove nitrates. Your filters do nothing to reduce nitrates. I have been doing 50% WCs for over 4 years with my aros, no problems.

Better to get and understanding of your water parameters and do some testing instead of relying on advise from a LFS.

i would do a 25 percent weekly atleast but why would you add salt there is no external infection that would just stress the fish more imo swim bladder could be messed up do to trauma dont really know

it the prime. ive never seem any black dots in it always clear as water.
ive also heard bad water makes them some what skittish
