I noticed my 1 of my cichlids has been acting a little weird for the past few days not roaming around the tank...just sitting under 1 of the pieces of wood..i decided i would pick up the piece of wood and check if everything was ok. the fish has lost a lot of its color...turning very dark and not swimming like its normal self

heres a pic of the fish anybody have any ideas?

What is the "hardness" of your water and PH? Do you have driftwood? What kind of filtration? Tank mates? I would say Ph shock if he is new. And perhaps a spike of some sort if he has been with you for a while. Please tell me more....:)

the ph is between 7.4-7.6 ...its just some kind of artificial looking driftwood from petsmart...the fish is not new i have had him in the tank for about 3 weeks now and hes been healthy ever since. i have him in their with 2 other cichlids and 1 pleco

hes been in their just as long as the other fish and they show no signs of being sick...the fish barely swims...when it try's it can barely get itself off the gravel when attempting to

I am not being mean :) The tank is just new. How many tanks do you keep ? And if you don't mind telling me, how old are they all? There is a way around your situation and I am getting there I just need to know these last few questions.

didnt say u were :)
the tank has been running for about a month now..i only have 1 tank and am in the process of setting up a 55. im not sure exactly how old they are because i havent had them since they were little..the fish is baout 2.5" the thing thats weird is that this is the only fish that seems to be having a problem. it was an extremely active fish before and all of a sudden all it does it sit under the driftwood and never comes out not even to eat

When humans get sick, do they all get sick at the same moment? Or do different people get sick at different times, and some people who are exposed never get sick....Horrible analogy but I am trying to say fish are no different in that regard. One will always get sick first and one may never get sick...ect ect.... You can get some established bio media from a friend or an lfs, and "seed" your tank. The bio-load your fish are producing is heavier than the amount of beneficial bacteria your tank has grown so far. Don't change the water for a couple days after seeding your filter. If you act quickly your fish will see no further harm...:) let me know if you think this info was useful :)
