back to the salt thing my friend . brackich fish do better is slightly salty water but DO NOT, DO NOT go dead sea on him or it will send him into a shock like state .... trust me sad things happen had a little F up. the brackish water will help his colors and activity levels as well. also how big is he now?

ok my gsp is still just a juvy and i think hes ill hes become sluggish and sits in one spot of the tank , not really like him at all, and he has a build up on his skin that looks like salt grains or muffed up goose bumps also his color is very light with grey pin sized spots showing on his belly.

the tank hes in is a 20 gal fresh water right now. its at the end of a cycle now so the lvls are higher than usual. the amonia is at .25 nitrite 1-2 and nitrate is 80 i am doing dayly water xfers of 25% to 30% to bring it down a bit but the other fish in the tank seem fine and aren't active out of the norm please i fear the worse on this one so if u know whats up please pm me

Your puffer is suffering from the effects of cycling your tank with it in there. Never do that with a puffer! You must do multible, large water changes, keeping the ammonia & nitrite as close to 0 at all times or permanent damage may be done to this fish. Is this "salt" on his fins too or just on his body?

the build up is also on his fins yes but the lvls have droped very far in the last day or so nitrate is to 5.0and nitrite is to .5-1 ammonia is 0

he seems to be moving more that he had been but his color and the build up on his skin havent decressed

Nitrite of 1 or even .5 is very toxic. You must keep doing WC until it is 0.
Sounds like he has ich: http://www.**************.com/forum/library/hospital/fwich/

alright i have him segrated form the other fish and went down and got another tank for full brackish water . i have doped him with the melafix , its all they had thank u petsmart, and just waiting for the new tank to settle a bit before i put him in . i took one of the two filters i had on the larger tank and put it on the new one and bought a bigger better made one to replace it

i will keep u posted on his status and thank u for the help
ps i did a 50% water change on the larger tank and the lvls are almost zeroed out i will do another in the morning

Let's hope he makes it. follow the directions in that article & add an airstone. You don't need meds to treat this. Melafix is fine to sooth his skin where the parasite is attacking it.

hey good news his color is starting to come back not all over but just on the top of his head the same spot that glows when u feed him and he seems hungry agin ativity is up and the dark lines around his mouth are back , not sure if thats a good thing but they would get darker when i would feed him before, im not sure if the meafix is helping or if its more the brackish water anyway thanks for the help and ill keep ya posted
