Any brand aquarium salt you recomend? I have a fizz tab with metro In it but a few other ingredients as well, should I pick up Just plain metro? And garlic extract can be had at a lfs too or what I have regular garlic but I don't think I have an extract. Any of these overdoseable or are they all safe? Meds is something new to me besides basic IP treatment so I want to make sure she has the best fighting chance.

Man this thread did go sour fast. I know the basics of freshwater puffers, size, growth, where they are from. Excuse me for never having one get in this situation amd having to come ask a question.
You could use Metro+. When ever my ctenopoma starts acting weird I dose his tank with that and he is usually better. I have never used it with puffers though. Also be aware it raises PH too.

I only want the salt in there to avoid the fungus, as far as the metro, it isnt very effective unless the fish eats it, try adding the garlic extract and the metro to some clams on the half shell...

I'm going to go pick up metrodinazole, melafix, garlic extract, and aquarium salt right now. Will do a water change and dose her hospital tank, with whatever the recommended melafix dose is, then soke a clam In the metro and garlic for a bit after.

Correct me if I'm wrong on that idea.

smart move dude... be careful with the melafix, dose light

Melafix says 5ml per 10g each day for 7 days then do a 25% water change at the end of treatment. I was wanting to do a 25% water change every day to give her clean water. However, I'm concerned about not keeping the correct amount of aquarium salt and melafix in the tank. Any thoughts there?

Also, soaked a clam in some Kent garlic extract and metro last night and no luck on the eating. Will give it another shot this evening.

I did the recomended 5ml per 10g, but will be doing it every other day rather than every day, with 25% water changes before dosing like suggested. Question is, with that 25% water change, should I add another tablespoon of aquarium salt f22? Little concerned about raising the salinity in the tank too much.

Today shes doing much better, buzzing the tank much like she did before, and using her upper fin, and bottom fin just a little. Shes leveled off in her swimming quite a bit, only goes tail up very shortly but it doesnt look as concerning as before since now it looks like shes actually controlling her swimming pattern. She also ate some clam tonight that was soaked in metro and garlic. However, concerning part, she had it in her belly a minute or two and then puked it all back out. I filled a regular plastic red solo cup about half way with water, added two drops of the Kent garlic extract plus a small amount of the metro soaked for 3-4 hours. Maybe it was too garlicy for her, but she atleast showed interest. I have an unsoaked clam defrosting in tank water for her right now, in hopes she will eat this one so I atleast have food in her stomach since its been 4 days now since she ate.

nice work. I always add a little API salt into my mbu's tank with h2o changes. Try to keep the salinity low, but more importanty: keep an eye on your water parameters as all those meds can kill off your beneficial bacteria. Sounds like she is on the mend though; I'm happy for you!

yes, the salt with water changes is a good idea I'm glad she is doing better...

Didn't eat the second clam last night, first one left a bad impression I think. Scarfed a clam down this morning though just like normal. Went to work, and when I got home did a big 60% water change. Did 2/3 dose of salt and melafix and she's happily buzzing around. The spot before her top fin looks like its starting to show normal colors, her bottom fin still looks all torn up amd destroyed though. Probably take weeks to get that back. Plan on leaving her in the hospital tank til Tuesday evening with another water change Tuesday morning and a big.clean on her big tank before she goes back in. Will totally reacclimate her with a slow drip before she goes back to her regular tank. Catfish will be gone as well.
