Hello all,

I seem to have a problem with my texas, he is about 6 inch he has developed a white growth on his side he seems to be unable to close his mouth fully and seems to be breathing alot more than usuall his face has also gone black.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong with him????

not sure but are ther any other fish in the tank that fight with it? For the most part treat the water with salt and higher temp. until.

I guess its internal parasite.
They turn dark and have difficulty breathing, also produce white long string-like poop.

The tank is cycled, right? It sounds like a water quality problem and maybe he's the most sensitive. How long have you had him? His tankmates? Anything new in the tank? What size is the tank? It could possibly be columnaris but it's almost impossible to tell without a picture.

The tank has been cycled for over 6 months all parameter are fine, I have had him for approx 2 months, within a few days of haveing him a growth appeared on him but I thought he had done it fighting with my argentea, since then two more growths have appeared, My smaller texas died today aswell, I checked him over and he had a small sore on his underneath, will upload pics of the big texas now. In the pics u will see the black face but that is only half his face, the other half is fine, its a dead straight line down his nose seperating colours.

Is it a white bump rising above the scales? I lost a discus last week to that. I tried salt and melafix to no prevail.
