Significant other and keeping fish

My wife has been pretty cool about letting me take over the home with tanks. What bugs me though is she only has enough interest in my fish to worry and stress out over them. she goes up to my tanks and tries to tell me at least every other day about a fish "acting weird" or asking "is he going to die?" when it is perfectly normal behavior. It has gotten old fast, b/c she won't do any research or learn about or listen to me about my fish. Does anyone else have this problem? any tips on how to get her to be motivated to learn about them? She even has her own betta but she doesn't care for it herself, she has me do it.

I get the same thing. My reply is (stupid questions get stupid answers) which I know is extremely harsh but true at the same time. At first she took anger twards me when i said this, but now after a few thousand times its a joke between us. And she tries very hard to get me with the same thing.

But me being rude got her to think before she talked. And now she will ask questions like ( I did not notice this fish was orange on the sides yesterday) and that tells me that she is now paying attention. So since she is starting to get involved with the fish more and more, I start to answer her questions and comments better. And I reply (yea she is getting ready to breed and is getting her spawning coloration. It is sort of like a woman getting all dressed up and going to a bar or club. Like you do when I go out of town to race.) lol

haha i don't mean to sound like a jerk, but its depressing that i do all this work and try very hard to keep these fish in great conditions and beautify their tanks by making natural looking environment...... and then she just walks up to them like the grim reaper asking if theyre ready to die

Next time when she asks be like. How wld u like it if i walked up to and and asked u if ur mom was gonna die. Thats how i would feel after all that work and bein critise.

best thing you could do man is to just keep TEACHING her more and more about fish, the more somone knows, the more they will be interested, the more interested they are, the more they will care.

One thing you do not want to do is poke fun at your wifes mom. That is like showering in gasoline while smoking a cigg.

i wouldn't mind that, but she doesn't wanna learn and she doesn't care enough to listen. THATS the aggravation. we all start somewhere and thats fine, but she knows/cares to learn just enough to be annoying

besides giving someone a black eye , what is the best thing you can do to someone that just tries to get under your skin about something?

Be more annoying to them then they are to you.

Maybe she is trying to show an interest but doesn't know how to go about it.

I too kinda took over the house with fish tanks. I am lucky, my wife gets a kick out of my fish. She doesn't know much about any of the fish I keep & sometimes ask some off the wall questions. But that is ok. I find it nice she is at least interested in what I do.
