A 3/4 inch bulkhead in the bottom of the tank with one of these screwed directly into the bulkhead.

I see no reason this wouldn't work..... I know when I move my big tank it will be getting 3-4 of these things. If they start chewing up the stones long before the stones wear out then I'd just build some sort of gaurd out of PVC or something to protect the stones. I doubt I'll have to worry about that for a while as all my rays seem to be "ankle biters" compared to your bigguns.....

Hold fast could work . Its for corals and is pretty strong. I just my bublbler out of the tank and put a circulation pump my hystrix didnt like the bubbles and made a hole in the air line with its tail while I was tying to burry it in the sand.
