Having got sick of suction cups never staying stuck to the tank decided to silicone seal them to the side of my tank.

On the package it says leave to set for 48 hours, its Geocel aquarium sealant, but I assume this is for fish tanks not just cups on the glass.

So my question is should I really leave my tank half full for 48 hours and wait for it to fully set, or could I fill it up sooner?

I'm thinking 24 hours would plenty, I could happily leave the filters etc off the cups for a few days to make sure theyre fully set, but they wont be taking any great weight anyways.

Thanks for any advice or help (if I leave some on the table it sets like rubber pretty quickly, maybe 12 hours would be enough?)

alot of that is the different factors, how thick the silicone is, does the silicone dry through releasing acid, so on and so forth, but if you get a thin enough layer you should have no problem after 24 hours, check the silicone instructions again, i may tell you for what thickness that recommended drying time is for

If there's a way to get a fan blowing on it, and it's not a structural or weight bearing application, I'd think 24 hours would be fine.

Thanks alot guys, I think I will leave it 24 hours then, a fan wouldnt help much as the sealant is inside the cup, I kind of replaced water with sealant for the suction if that makes sense and held it firmly in place for 5mins ro so.

LOL great idea i would give it 2-4 days max to cure

Next time go for the superglue its dry in 50seconds

Maybe so, but I wouldnt trust it to not leak anything into the tank.

Just to maybe show what I mean a bit better, picture worth a thousand words and all that.....

It might look a little odd as the crayon I used to mark the position is still on the side of the tank, it seems to show up better in the picture than in real life lol.
