I mixed up a bottle of algae killer with the nearly identical bottle of water treatment. Needless to say I lost almost everything.

that stuff really is playing with fire, no amount of algae would make me purchase it; I remember my neighbour experiencing a similar issue after dosing his tank...fish covered in slime and dying very shortly afterwards...

Putting 2 Oscars and a pleco in a 20 gallon. I soon upgraded after i did my research.

I wasn't really a beginner for this one, but it was about 5 years ago. - i do water changes with the kitchen tap and a hose. I forgot that i was in a middle of a water change once and went to check on my neighbors dog while they were on holiday. Luckily my parents realized what i'd done and there was no lasting damage. Just wet feet every time you walked past the tank for a week.

It was the fact that the tap water wasn't treated that did it, this was a very small amount of algae killer. And at the time I was a complete newbie, so it was all hand-me-downs. I didn't even remember the other bottle was in the box until it was too late.

Had a 16" RTC in a 75g with an inadequate canister filter and fed it mice. It coughed up hair balls for a few days then died

Bought a couple of pacus for a 40g.
